Landscape Paintings

A watercolour landscape artist can conjure a whole world with a piece of flat paper and paint. With a few flicks of a paintbrush, trees can be made to be thick or bare. Lakes can made to shine, creeks that seem to gurgle, grasses that make that wonderful sound in the wind. It’s always amazed me how some artists, with a only a few dabs of paint here and there can depict sufficient information to let our imagination see the most wonderful complete pictures in our mind.

The landscape artists that I admire do not depict landscapes as if they were taken with a camera. The best do not paint exactly what they see. They adjust the number of trees, move mountains, make river banks more interesting, etc. Most importantly they provide the viewer with just enough suggestive information.

It’s not surprising that I love landscape paintings since I live surrounded by trees, fields and flowers.

Here is a recent painting of a fence.
