Nuit Blanche is Today!

In its third year, Nuit Blanche Ottawa+Gatineau is a 1 night per year, dusk-until-dawn celebration of Art and local culture that takes place between 5pm and 4am across multiple venues and within the cityscape of Ottawa and Gatineau. Nuit Blanche showcases the creativity and cohesion of the local community and the success of its industries.

It is an innovative and new way of experiencing art and within the grounds of the urban city scape. More than 100 artistic projects will participate and more than 20 galleries and local businesses have special events planned for the entire evening.

Nuit Blanche began in Nantes, France in 1989. It has become an iconic event that is now produced annually in hundreds of cities worldwide. The all-night festival has spread to places such as New York, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Rome, Madrid, and Melbourne and of course Ottawa. Its goal is to momentarily enable the re-imagining and animation of public spaces within the urban environment.

In past years, more than 30,000 people attended Nuit Blanche in the National Capital Region. The event is supported by many local cultural leaders and partners including the Ottawa Art Gallery, SAW Gallery (where I will be), Artengine, the Council for the Arts in Ottawa, the ByWard Market BIA and Markets Management.

The Arteast Association, of which I am a member, will host 2 events. We’ll be at the By Ward market square on the second floor. There we’ll have a Kids Zone from 5:30 to 8:30pm, where some of us, including me will encourage Children in acrylics and watercolours. These art creations will form part of large murals which will be donated to a local charity.

The second event will be the Salon des Refusé Exhibition in the Saw Gallery on the second floor in the By Ward Market Square. I’ll have a few paintings on display.

Here is a watercolour that I painted while at the Rendez-Vous des couleurs show last weekend. Parts of the profits of this show were donated to an association of mentally challenged children. I gave this painting to one of the child who was there who watched me paint for much of the show. In return, I received a wonderful hug;-)

I also want to thank all of my dear friends who came to visit me at this show.
The show was also wonderful for making some new friends.

I'm currently painting a larger painting along the same theme, so stay tune.
