Fascinated by Skies

I enjoy painting landscapes and one thing that is fun about them is the sky.  There are no two alike. Whether it's dawn, dusk or mid-day, skies have shapes and colours that are mesmerizing.

There’s something fascinating about the sky going yellow and then pink as with sunsets. It’s absolutely gorgeous! I spend a lot of time looking at the clouds and changes in colours. Sometimes the colours are exciting while others they have a calming effect. Either way, it's all good.

Did you know that our eyes may perceive more colours at dawn than dusk?  At sunrise, our eyes are adapting from the dark to light, hence minor changes seem more evident.  While for sunset, our eyes are used to much light and may lose some hues.

Here is a painting of an imaginary sky.  I wanted to create motion with the lines towards one point on the horizon.  The Adirondack chairs were added to make it inviting to sit down and watch the colours in the sky create different shapes.

I'm not sure if I should add some trees on the shore? What do you think?

This new painting, framed in an old window, will be on display at the upcoming Art in the Park show at the Ottawa Experimental Farm in two weeks (August 13).

Have a great week,
Danielle
