Artworld vs art-world

Last Thursday, I attended a conference given by Dr. Yves M. Larocque. The topic of the conference was "Artworld" and "Art-World". I was not familiar with either of these terms prior to this event and enjoyed the philosophical presentation.

The term "artworld, was introduced by Arthur Danto in 1964 to signify a group or network of people involved in the production, commission, preservation, promotion, criticism and sale of art.

Yves Larocque uses the term "art-word". He uses this to linked to geography, mediology and socio-psychology. His “art-world” is a well-circumscribed territory endowed of its own system of transmission devices needed for the circulation of ideas. This system comprises, airports, train stations, roads, sidewalks, libraries, churches, mosques, synagogues, museums, galleries, schools, universities, periodicals, restaurants, cafés, colleges, etc. Through this system, may it be complex or simple, travels the many ideas of “art”. Read his blog for more about this interesting topic.

Starting next Saturday, I will have the following three paintings at the Applecrate Gallery in Manotick as part of the Ottawa Watercolour Society's 78th juried show.

Theses paintings will be on exhibit until November 9th. The vernissage is held Saturday September 8, 2018, 6-9pm.

Have a great week,
Danielle
