Teaching watercolour classes

In the past few weeks, I've been preparing my first watercolour classes.  I will be offering watercolour classes at Da Artisti Gallery & Studio. The weekly 2-hour classes will begin Thursday September 12th and run for 4 consecutive weeks between 1pm and 3pm in the Da Artisti studio in Cumberland.

Since the classes are aimed at beginners, I'm designing them to be encouraging. Watercolour is not an easy medium and it's easy to get discouraged. I aim to have participants go home feeling empowered with the new skills they gained and confident to apply them in their own work. To accomplish this, participants will learn various techniques and how to paint certain elements (trees, rocks) and then use them to build paintings.

Some of the learnings will include:
  • The characteristics of watercolour painting
  • The equipment needed for starting watercolor painting
  • The importance of values
  • How to mix your watercolour paints
  • How to apply watercolour washes
  • The basic composition of good painting
However we won't stop at techniques. Students will leave each class with a small painting so they feel more accomplished.

If you have always wanted to learn a simple approach to watercolour then this is the course for you.

Click here to enroll in this course at a cost of $100 + hst (includes all materials).

In addition to preparing for this course, I continue to paint. This past week I took a break from painting fruits and vegetables from the market or candy to paint antiques. I'm calling this new watercolour "Blue Balls and a Crown”. It will be on exhibit at the 38th annual Arteast Juried Awards Exhibition that will be held at St Laurent Complex, 525 Côté Street, Ottawa K1K 0Z8 from Sunday September 15th, 2019, through Wednesday, November 13th, 2019.

Have a great week,

Danielle
