Artsy Social Distancing

What’s an art lover to do during the COVID-19 social distancing period. The answer is clear, bring more art into your life. We can experience and create lots of art from the comfort of our own homes.

Social distancing is forcing artists and art lovers to think outside the box and possibly see art in a new way.

To keep the arts alive, museums and galleries across the world are offering virtual tours of digitized collections. In addition, numerous artists are making available for free, online videos.  I'm even going to give creating videos a try.   Artists are also coming together using ZOOM to share their projects and experiences.

If you don't have supplies to help spark your creativity, almost all art stores will quickly ship you want you need.

You can also participate in the many art challenges that are appearing on social media.

If you’re a seasoned artist, you might want to experiment with a new and unfamiliar medium. This is a great time to push yourself to improve your drawing, organize your studio, focus on a series, update your social media, etc.

Imagine what we can all create without all of the usual hustling. I believe that very few have innate artistic talent. This is a great time to practice and practice. Malcolm Gladwell suggested in his book "Outliers" that that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become expert at something. So that may seem extreme. I'm sure there is a happy medium that is less daunting.

Here is another watercolour for my garden project. In theory I have two more to do, but I may not use some of the paintings I've already created.

Here is mock-up of what this project may look like. The end size will be about 3' X 3'.

Stay healthy,

Danielle
