Drones and possible impact on paintings

For more than a century photography has had a valuable tool for visual artists since most of them paint from reference photographs. We have seen in past decades an increase in the ease of obtaining photos. Obtaining better quality photos has never been so accessible.

For years, artists have been taking photos of their subjects from various angles, almost all from the ground. With the arrival of drones and small camera technology like GoPros, there has been a new trend in photography with an increase in aerial photography. This presents some new perspective for photographers. It's not difficult to imagine the variety of landscape and wild life photos that will be very accessible in the near future as drones become more common.  This will require painters to set aside some of the way they paint landscapes.

Consider how operating a drone over a beautiful area of countryside or seascape can provide stunning photographs which can then be used to create beautiful paintings.

Next Saturday, I'll be participating in the Cumberland Christmas Market. A former general store (aka Haddad) will be converted into a gallery. I feel fortunate for being invited and I looking forward to meeting many of the local residents.

This week's painting is of one of the most beautiful Ontario provincial park - Killarney. I chose this simple composition for the gorgeous old window frame.
