Online Learning Tutorials

For anyone wanting to learn how to paint or improve their skills, there is no shortage of online resources. Finding suitable lessons/tutorials might even be a challenge with the overload of web offerings.

The first step is to understand your learning style. Are you a visual learner and need to have something demonstrated?  Are you a self-learner who enjoys experimenting? If yes, online videos/ tutorials might be right for you. If not, search from the abundance of available books or traditional classroom classes.

The next step is to search for videos/tutorials based on your skill level. If you want to start, search for videos that will teach you the basics such as mixing colours, creating even or graded washes, different techniques (e.g. wet in wet).

To stay motivated, look for resources that focus on subjects that are of interest to you.  If the topic doesn't interest you, it's likely that you won't put the required effort.  In other words, if you love flowers, then you may not gain much from painting an abstract.

Ensure you have the basics before moving on to intermediate or advanced videos. Otherwise the results may discourage you or you will miss out on much of the lesson.

There are numerous videos on YouTube and other websites, but there are also some great resources that you need to subscribe to.  This depends on how serious your are about learning.

Here is my recent painting of waterlilies.   Some people enjoy bright scenes, I enjoy soothing and relaxing paintings to look at.  I have one more picture of waterlilies that I want to paint.

Danielle Beaulieu watercolour of water lilies

I'm back to painting grapes, this next painting will be different from my recent painting of grapes.

Have a  great week
