Recycling old wooden window frames

Many people may believe that reusing and recycling old wooden windows is creative and can save lots of money. I like the charm and rustic feeling this eco friendly idea gives with the right painting.

I enjoy reusing and recycling salvaged wooden windows. Blending vintage style design with landscapes seems like a great match and fits in modern interior design as well as more rural decors.

Once found, old wooden windows required a lot of work before being used as a frame. The toughest part is often removing the old dried up caulking to free the glass. The wood must then be stripped, sanded and sometimes stained. Other times a coat of wax is sufficient to protect and nourish the wood of the window.

There are a few sources to find old wooden frames. You can visit garage sales, flea markets, kijiji, etc.

In the past week, I painted this scene to be inserted into an old window frame. In this case the window wasn't stripped but only scrubbed to show the different layers of paint.

I've started another one with water yesterday that may be as interesting if not more

Have a great week
Danielle
