In February 2016, Myka Burke, a local artist and radio host, had a brilliant idea. She decided to organize an art show in a storage unit which would be in line with the minimalist movement. She contact a place called Just Right Self Storage and spoke to the manager who was supportive of this original idea. Artspace 613 was born and the Self Storage Art Show was scheduled.
Myka reached out to her contacts and next thing you knew, there were more than 20 confirmed artists. Coincidentally, Myka learned that the storage facility was also used by the family of two well known Canadian artists: Claire Guillemette Lamirande and R. Eleanor Milne. The families of those artists are exhibiting, as part of the show, some of the art of these famous artists. Here is a sample of the art you will find:
Saturday was the first of a two-day show and more than 300 people attended. It was a big success. Here are a few write-ups about the show:
