There's always a certain level of anxiety when doing a commission. There are a number of nuances when creating a custom work of art. Commissions mean a trade off on artistic freedom and creativity. Most of the time the client has a photo that is meaningful to them, but does not have good "composition". This artist then want's to move objects around. Then there is the stress of painting something to someone else's satisfaction and then possibly listening to input. In those instances, the brushstrokes may not feel the same way as they would on a painting the artist chose to paint.
I'm fortunate that I have had mostly positive experiences with commissions.
For this latest commission, simplification was one of the things I worked on. I tried to eliminate a number of details that didn't contribute to the appeal of the painting.
Here is what the end product looks like.
Matching up an artist's interpretation with the expectations of the client is a delicate process, and not for the faint at heart.
Have a great week,
Danielle
