Do you believe that there are trends that influence art? Today, I want to highlight two that I have noticed.
In the past week, I did a quick painting of the Rockies. This scene is south of Jasper. The various bodies of the water in that area get their colour from glacier silt or rock flour. The silt is created when rocks underneath the surface of the ice are grinding from the movement of the glacier. The rock flour is very light and stays suspended in the lake water for a long time. The sunlight that reflects off this rock flour is what gives the lakes their spectacular turquoise blue or green colour.
Next Saturday, I have the pleasure of providing a demo in front the Da Artisti Gallery in Cumberland. I hope that some of you will stop by and/or visit the Cumberland market from 9-1pm.
Have a great week,
Fantasy: from landscapes or characters or still life, there appears to be an increase in art with a fantasy theme. I suspect that the increase use of software contributes to this trend.
Minimalist: A number of paintings use negative space in their composition to enhance it. The use of this minimalist approach gives the eye a "place to rest," increasing the appeal of a composition through subtle means.
