Their is a real danger that the decline of bees and other pollinators will impact our food supply in the near future. Among the possible causes, and there are quite a few, cited for bee colony failure is the loss of their habitat. The ever-shrinking farm country means fewer bee-friendly meadows.
Living in the country, I am very sensitized to the dwindling bee population, The fact that surrounding farms are being re-zoned is upsetting. Some of them that were used for corn are now abandoned.
Here is a WIP painting that symbolizes the expanding cities and the loss of farms and bees. The city skyline is fictional, the barn is a one from the area and the re-zoning sign comes from a couple of streets from where I live.
Insect pollination is vital to our ecosystem and to maintain biodiversity and sustain agricultural crops.
