Paint small or large?

I enjoy this philosophical understanding of the mystery of the big and the small by Lao Tzu expressed about 2,600 years ago - "Prepare for the difficult white it is still easy. Deal with the big while it is still small. Difficult undertakings have always started with what's easy. Great undertakings always started with what is small. Therefore the sage never strives for the great, and thereby the great is achieved."

One of the considerations when planning a painting is size.  Some think that they can transpose a small painting into a large.  However, it seems that every idea has its ideal size.  For small paintings, you can free yourself  of many of the details.  For large paintings weaknesses could be exposed.

Here is the painting that I've been working on for the past 2 weeks.  It's been a struggle to find time lately.  I'm almost finished the lace curtain. Then I will focus on the flowers and the table.  I will finish with the silver items and the interesting reflections of the flowers and the lace curtain.

Have  a great Mother's Day
